Year 2 2019 - 2020

Mr Fletcher

Mrs Pescaglia

Welcome to Year 2!

Year 2 are taught by Mr. Fletcher and their teaching assistant is Mrs Pescaglia.

We have moved on to reading 'The Night Gardener' by the Fan Brothers and creating a setting description. In maths, our focus is on addition and subtraction before applying that to using money. Across the curriculum we will accumulate knowledge of The Seven Modern Wonders of the World, the story of Jesus' birth and much more.

Reading
This year we will continue to focus on developing our reading skills and we will aim to read 5 out of 7 nights a week. We would love all children to receive a gold reading certificate by the end of this year. Pupils have access to the Accelerated Reader program and Reading Eggs - a fun online scheme which supports and develops their skills.

If you want more information or login details for any of our online learning support tools, let me know.

Homework
Homework will be given out every Friday and will be due back the following Tuesday. English homework will be shared in homework books and maths will be online through MyMaths.

Spellings
Spelling lists will be given out every Friday. The spelling rules will be taught in school and all children can continue to practise these at home. Spelling tests will take place the week after the lists have been sent home.

Times Tables
One of our important targets for all pupils in Y2 is learning our 2, 5 and 10 times tables and being able to recall the related multiplication and division facts. All pupils have access to Times Tables Rock Stars - a fun and exciting scheme that can be accessed on ipads, phones and other devices to support and challenge your child's learning.

PE
PE lessons will take place every Tuesday (gymnastics) and Wednesday (yoga), please ensure your child has their PE kit with them that day.

We are really looking forward to getting started!
