Year 1 2020 - 2021
Hello and welcome to your Year 1 class page.
Here you will be able to read and find out about all of the different things that we get up to in Year 1.
This year we have lots of fun and interesting learning experiences planned for you. In our History topic we are learning all about The Beatles and we will be learning some of their songs in our music sessions too. I know Y1 are going to love this topic! We also have lots of exciting activities planned across our whole curriculum.
In order to keep ourselves fit and healthy, we will also be completing a daily workout session so make sure that you have a pair of trainers in school with you each day and a water bottle. Please ensure PE kits are clearly labelled with your child's name. Year 1 will be doing PE on a Thursday in the Summer term and will be doing Dance.
Phonics homework will be set each Friday on Seesaw giving children the chance to practise sounds from the week that will be tested the following Friday. Children also have a Spelling Shed log in, there will be weekly spellings assigned so children can play the games to practise their spellings.
Reading is a very important aspect of learning throughout your child’s school journey. We actively encourage you to read every night with your child. Please send reading bags into school every day along with the reading book which has been sent home. Children will come home with 2 reading books to suit their ability, they should practise reading these over the course of a week, they will be changed weekly. They will also have 1 book from the class library that is for reading with a grown up as a bedtime story or sharing story. This year, we have introduced the phonics scheme Read Write Inc to our school, which takes place every day. This involves the children working in smaller groups within their class bubble to support their reading, writing and literacy.
You will be able to find all of this half-term's knowledge organisers on this page, along with lots of other updates throughout the year.
