Year 1 2019 - 2020
The Year 1 class teacher is Mrs O'Neill and the Year 1 Teaching Assistant is Mrs McMillan. We have lots of exciting learning opportunities planned for this year and you will be able to read all about what we get up to in Year 1 on this class page, as well as seeing lots of pictures of us!
Just a few reminders that you need to know for the year;
- We are actively encouraging children to read as much as possible for pleasure at home. Please help encourage this by ensuring that reading book bags are in school every day with their reading book and reading record. Children will be given the opportunity to change their book within the school each week. Please listen to your child read as much as possible and make a comment where necessary in their record if they struggled on anything in particular so we can support them. When your child reads at least 5 out of 7 nights a week they will get a sticker which will go towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold reading certificate awards!
- We will be doing PE on a Thursday for the first half term. Please ensure that your child has the correct kit in on these days, including appropriate pumps/trainers, and that all items of clothing are named clearly. PE is compulsory and all children are expected to join in.
- Your child will receive English and Maths homework each week on a Friday. This is expected to be brought back by the following Tuesday. Children will also be given weekly phonics to practise.
- Spellings will be given on a Thursday every two weeks.
Please do not hesitate to come and ask any questions or with any issues; myself and Mrs McMillan are always happy to help!
Thank you for your support.
